an overlooked holiday.

the soft melody of jingle bells rings in everyone's ears. the decorative store fronts are being lined with jolly christmas decorations. the sweet and faint aromas of cinnamon, evergreen, and peppermint are flooding the air. people are buzzing with holiday spirit. people are busily preparing for the most wonderful time of the year: christmastime!

"but wait" some might add. "it is only the beginning of november" ahh yes, my friend. "but wait" is correct. what about thanksgiving? has it been forgotten? over the years, i have found that the christmas season begins earlier and earlier. immediately after haloween, stores rush to take down the old, unwanted, and forgotten haloween decorations. people don't want the old. the salespeople hurry to bring out the new and spirited christmas decorations. they stock their stores with stockings, ornaments, and things perfect for christmas presents. even now, just writing this, i am being overwhelmed by an excited sense of joy because I know that christmas is coming.

in all of the hustle and the bustle about christmas, people often forget about thanksgiving. although thanksgiving is not as fast paced or as exciting or as thrilling as christmas, it is still important and meaningful. thanksgiving is a holiday meant to be spent with family. it is meant to give people rest. it is a holiday meant to make people stop. to make people slow down. to make people remember our country's heritage. to remind people how we got here. to give people a chance to reflect on the blessings in their life. to allow people to slow down enough to say "thank you" to people in their lives. thanksgiving is a day to enjoy delicious food filled with family, friendship, and memories. thanksgiving brings people of all walks of life together, and thanksgiving is a day where everyone should feel blessed, loved, and most importantly, thankful.

thanksgiving is a holiday filled with thankfulness, remembrance, and blessings. it may not be as glitz and glam as christmas, but it it definitely a much needed holiday that should not be overlooked in the slightest way.
