There has been an on going debate on whether or not to replace the public schools with private charter schools. This amendment, the Charter School Amendment, was first introduced in Georgia by a group of people who deemed public schools as inadequate and incompetent. The amendment has good intentions to improve the overall education level in the state of Georgia . The constant thrive for more, to get better, has attracted supporters for this quite radical amendment, but there also have been many opponents against this. Those who believe that the public school systems are more than adequate to educate the young minds are strong opponents against the amendment. I am personally against the ratification of this amendment. Despite the potentially positive results that may sprout from this amendment, there will also be many consequences that will shroud the positives like the state looking incompetent in front of other states and the rivalries between the private companies to promote their own school.
Apparently, the Atlanta ’s Tea Party stands on the same side I do for they declared that they are “coming out against the amendment.” However, their arguments are different from mine that they believe the key issue in this debate is “about control.” Their argument is that since the public school system is a government run organization, the people’s direct complaints and disapprovals towards the government and the amendment itself is like act of rebellion towards the government. If the amendment were to be ratified, power is being taken away from the government itself.
So there are some more reasons behind the arguments from those who support and oppose the amendments especially political reasons. Complexities with in the government also contribute to the arguments but honestly I am ignorant and not informed enough.
But I still kinda do believe that the amendment is not the best choice.
