On may 25th, 1977, George Lucas released the first of his groundbreaking movies, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. His movie was extremely successful, it earned 460 million dollars in the US and 314 million overseas, all on a budget of 11 million! It became the highest grossing film and stayed there until 1982.
George Lucas created amazing memories for not only people who grew up in the 70s, but also for people this generation when he realeased the prequel to the original films. After these films were complete, Lucas swore that he wouldn't ever make another Star Wars movie, and he has kept his word, but last week Lucas sold his beloved franchise to Disney.
The Walt Disney Company bought Lucasfilm from Lucas for 4.05 billion dollars, and says they plan on making 3 more Star Wars movies. This caused many different reactions, some are excited for the movies, some were happy with the way it had ended and don't want it to change, and some think that Disney will ruin it. I personally think that Disney is completely capable of making Lucas proud and creating an extremely successful movie.
Disney has proven that they can make quality movies lately, as they just realeased Avengers, which is the third highest grossest movie in US box office history. I can't wait till 2015 when the first movie comes out and I'm curious to see the different reactions that it recieves.
