slow down and buckle up

A minor died on Tuesday because of injuries from a car crash. The car s/he was in was hit from the side by a silver 2007 Pontiac G5 driven by Julian Guzman, 19, of Hiram, after he ran a red light. It was a nice Saturday afternoon and the child’s father, 35-year-old Sharone Gadsden, was driving his maroon 1996 Chevrolet. They may have been off to go shopping or to drop the child off at a friend’s house to play. Whatever they were on their way to do never happened. Guzman ran through the red light hitting the Gadsden’s car and ejecting the child from his/her seat. The child was rushed to Atlanta Medical Center, and then flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Unfortunately, the child did not make it. Gadsden did not suffer any life threatening injuries, but he was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. The worse part about it is that the man who caused the accident and his three passengers did not have any injuries.
It is quick and easy to put all immediate blame on Guzman, but some blame rests on Gadsden as well. Gadsden had failed to buckle the child into the seat belt. Something as simple and quick as the buckling of a seat belt could have saved that child’s life.  People are always in a rush to get somewhere, but they need to realize that being a few minutes late is much better than killing an innocent child. If Guzman had just stopped at the red light, he would have only gotten to his destination no more than a few minutes later, but now he will be charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to obey a traffic control device, and he must hold the guilt of killing a young victim.
