Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Aurora, and Snow White. These are just some of Disney's famous princesses that many children, especially little girls grew up with. Many girls looked up to at least one of them, but I considered them all my role models. Although, even though I adore all the princess, my favorite would have to be Ariel, because she is double the amazement, being a mermaid and then a princess. When I was little and somebody would ask my what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say a princess. They were a huge part of my life as I aged, and still are something I think fondly of.
Disney is what enabled children's imaginations to soar, princesses just excelled it to a new extreme. The idea girls from any walk of life could find true love in a rich, handsome prince, appealed to many. Cinderella was practically a servant to her family, Belle met a beast who was a secret prince, and Ariel was a mermaid who fell in love with a land-dweller. Yet, even with all the outlandish obstacles, all seemed to overcome it for true love. These movies made it possible for me to believe in my dreams and know that miracles do happen.
Within the past few years a real life princess has come into the public eye, Kate Middleton. When the Royal Wedding was happening, I was so psyched because it was like my wildest dreams forming into a reality. I had three of my best friends over to watch the wedding, and we all got up at 5am to watch this historical event unfold. Middleton is a perfect princess of the people, and has an impeccable sense of style. She gives me hope that my crazy childhood dreams can really happen. After all, a girl can dream and there is always Prince Harry.
Ariel gave up her voice, her family and her tail for a boy she didn't even know. Role model??? I don't know. : )
