Polling Problems in Fulton County

As many people know, unless you live under a rock, the presidential elections were held two days ago. The outcome was that Barrack Obama won. Many Fulton Country residents, the ones who had not done early voting, went to the polls to vote. However this was not as easy as some people thought that it should be or would be. Fulton County had polling problems. The biggest problem was that many voters who had registered to vote on time were not in the system. One of these unfortunate Fulton County voters was my mom. She had registered in time but she was not in the system the day before the election. She checked again on November 6th, Election Day, and fortunately for her she was in the system.

It is important that all voting systems and polls work accurately and properly. These machines provide the information that we use to decide who will become our next president. If these machines and systems of registration do not work properly, then the peoples’ voice is not accurately reflected.

Voting is a civic duty of all Americans. If Americans do not vote then the system that the founding fathers set up to run the United will not work properly because the power of the government was intended to lie with the people and if not all the people vote, then the results of the election are inaccurate. Fulton County was not the first county to have polling problems and it definitely won’t be the last. Back in 2000, in the Algore v. Bush election, many votes in Florida had to be recounted due to a polling problem, hanging chads. Polling problems tend to discourage voters from going out and voting because if voting and fulfilling their civic duty is a hassle, many people would be turned off from voting. If we as citizens want a more accurate representation and bigger voter turnout, then polling problems and other voting problems need to be resolved.
