The reality of being a woman.

It truly terrifies me that these kind of incidents actually happen. That is, sexual assaults. It's a serious topic, I know, and I think we take it lightly sometimes. I watch all these crime shows and I hear stories of this and that, but when I really think about the reality of it all, I tremble. I can't and couldn't even imagine the mental and physical turmoil that these women go through, and I'm not trying to be sexist, but rape victims are almost always female. Women always act like we're somehow equal to men, and perhaps on some level of intelligence or something else, but physically, we can't lie. The average female is less physically strong then an average male, and in a split second, that face become the largest vulnerability in a woman.
These woman are going about on their normal schedules on a normal day, but then all of a sudden their world falls apart. They tell their stories about how "there is healing" and that they "get through it." But all concur that they cannot forget. It is a scar in their lives marring all the innocence that maybe have remained.
When I read this article, "4 attempted sexual assaults in Dekalb area," I wanted to cry. That was in a span from October 1st through the 20th. That is truly insane but the fact is, there is way more than that, we just never find out until it's too late. They spoke that they "were lucky they fleed with only a few scratches and physical injuries" and that is truly lucky. If anything, it's a miracle. They left with their minds still intact and their hearts still available for living. But they were still victims of the fact that this is the reality of being a woman. We are always in danger even if we don't know it. Date rape, rufees, and sexual assaults are all a real thing and too many are victimized from it.

  1. I know this may be "trespassing" since my usual territory is the 1st period blog, but I liked your post and I agree: this is something that really defines the pitiful nature of the world. -Kylesh
