Thousands of Flights Grounded due to Hurricane Sandy

The devastating and historic "Frankenstorm" - also known as hurricane Sandy - has been creating numerous accounts of chaos for the past few days. The storm has "Hurricane-force winds that are expected up to 175 miles from the anticipated landfall zone. Tropical storm-force winds are expected up to 520 miles away, meaning that if the storm made landfall in Atlantic City, tropical storm-force winds would be felt all the way to Nova Scotia".

Not only that but it is a storm that has taken an unexpected turn where "a full moon on Monday night will result in higher tides, which will make storm surges even worse. And, a high-pressure system is making for a cork-in-a-bottle phenomenon, in which the storm is trapped in place and cannot escape." Meteorologist Lonnie Quinn reported “It’s a bad thing,” he said. “It’s like giving this storm a Monster energy drink.” This storm is frightening to say the least, just in time for Halloween.

Millions are without power, many areas of the east coast are flooded - Sandy has caused a multitude of problems.

It has reached its horrible claws past the east coast and is now creating havoc for the entire United States as family members cannot be reunited due to canceled flights. Flights were canceled Sunday through Tuesday and a staggering number of 10,000 flights. These cancellations have now caused a back up that may end up lasting as long as a week

This storm has been compared to Hurrican Katrina, but it was a random surprise that has been a lot more devestating. The death toll is up to over 100 people, not to mention that the flooding, canceled flights, ruined homes, and power loss is wreaking havock on the entire United States. Hopefully the damange done by this natural disaster can get cleaned up as quickly and efficiently as possible.
