Stranded students return from storm-battered NYC

After a lengthy bus ride, metro Atlanta students finally arrived home after being stranded in New York due to Hurricane Sandy. At approximately 9:00 am, a charter bus carrying Jonesboro High School and Atlanta International School mock trial teams after a national tournament in New York City pulled into the Jonesboro High School parking lot. The students' return came after days of flight cancellations after powerful storms pervaded the Northeast. After days of being stranded, the mock trial teams opted to take a bus, relinquishing uncertainty of delayed flights.

With the entire Northeast devastated by Sandy, it is a miracle that all of the students were able to return home safely. Despite the students' staying on higher ground, there was still great risk of injury or even death with aggressive rainfall and winds causing havoc in the city of New York. This example of a miracle can provide hope to those affected by the hurricane. Cars and Homes flooded, power lines destroyed, and people killed, a sliver of hope is all people need to endure this period of hardship and struggle. The return of the mock trial teams represents more than a child returning home, but hope itself.

This event is comparable to soldiers returning home from the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan. The soldiers, like the students, were under injurious conditions, yet most were able to return to their friends and families.
