God

I bet a lot of people will see this blog and think "Oh no, somebody is about to cross the line with this whole blogging about whatever we want thing". But that's not what I'm here to do. In our society we know there's two topics of discussion that people generally tend to avoid when it comes to polite conversation: Religion and Politics. Well most people I've encountered at Johns Creek don't seem to have any objections to voicing their political views, so it's time to hit on the other side of the sensitivity spectrum.

God. Allah. Jesus. There's countless religions out there all worshiping and believing in various gods, figures, and traditions. Personally I was baptized as a Methodist Christian. I've been to various churches throughout my life, but I've never considered myself a very religious person. What should decide a person's religion? Should they simply believe whatever their parents tell them? That seems closed minded, but almost any firm believer in a faith will defend theirs with a fiery passion.

Now, all this build up brings me to what is actually the main focus of this blog- If there is a God then why is there so much suffering and pain in the world? Some people may argue that God created a good world and that humans have caused any suffering. Others may say that everything happens for a reason. To me these answers just don't cut it. I look around everyday and see pain and loss. I have more than one friend whose lost a parent. Families and many innocent children left to grow up without a father because of some strange illness. Or the ever present hot button topic of people starving and dying of disease everyday in Africa. With all of this going on in the world at every moment, It becomes difficult to maintain a faith in a caring and gracious higher power. There's kids out there who never live to grow up. There's hopes and dreams crushed every day. The world is a cruel place to live. I'm not saying that I don't believe in God, but with all the suffering on the surface it's sometimes easy to lose sight of a deeper meaning. Maybe I'll go to hell for writing this, but then again, depending on what you believe, maybe there is no Hell.
