Roswell Water Plant

The city of Roswell agreed to move on with their plan to build a new water treatment center. This new water treatment center is estimated to cost around $16 million. Although, this treatment center will provide Roswell an escape from the Fulton county and Atlanta water systems, many the current Roswell water plant only provides water to about 14,000 people, which is roughly 18 percent of the population. The new water plant will only revamp the current system, which is 80 years old, to make it more efficient and make dependency on the other nearby water systems obsolete, expand the size or the number of people that it has the capacity to reach. Many people in the Roswell area claim to have not heard anything about what is going on, but these people are just oblivious, because the city of Roswell has had over 6 discussion sessions, which were all open to the public.

The new water treatment center in Roswell will make the city of Roswell more self-reliant. Even though the new center will cost around $16 million, city officials have projected that, residents of Roswell will only receive a charge of an additional dollar to their water bills. This money will go towards paying off the 20 year loan that the city has taken out. Roswell city officials have also estimated that this new plant will save the city of Roswell over $12 million in the next 20 years. The plant will do this through lowering the cost of maintenance and the cost of water production, by breaking the nearby monopoly that is the Fulton county water system.

The United States could use this as a lesson, even though this may be on a smaller scale. The US depends on many countries, mainly China, to maintain our economy. However, if China’s economy starts to fail, then we will also be in financial problems. The co-dependency failure was demonstrated with many European countries whose economies started to go downhill after the Greek economy crashed. In short, we should bring more manufacturing and jobs back to the United States, therefore relying less on other countries. This insures that, even if things start to go bad elsewhere, that the United States can still maintain itself.
