Family Feud?

On October 20th, 2012, Frederick Harrison had to have his ear lobe reattached in surgery because his son-in-law bit it off. Augusta police arrived at the scene of the incident around 10 p.m. this past saturday and they were informed that this all started from a simple famiy feud. It turns out that the incident begain when Harrison's 30 year old daughter and her husband Jonathan Collins began arguing because she made a sandwich for another man at a party. Harrison informed the police that he was arguing with Collins when Collins punched him in the face and bit off a portion of his ear. Collins was placed into the Richmond County jail on accounts of aggravated battery.
It never ceases to amaze me how "crazy" us humans can get. We deceive ourselves into thinking we are so special and apart from the animals of the wild. But honestly, I can only say that we are still animals, just domesticated. But even domesticated animals cross the line and lose themselves. We are arrogant to think that since we are humans, we are somehow greater than all the other species in this world. This incident is among many other violent outbreaks, and yet we are still surprised by it.
We hear stories of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Jack the Ripper and tremble in fear. The interesting thing is that we humans somehow disregard them as just a "special case" or that they're just "something else." We don't admit that they are humans just like us and we can't just put them into another categories. It's like we've created another social hierarchy based upon our sanity. If you are a killer or a thief or a sociopath then you are somehow disregarded as even human. But in reality, this is humanity.
Humanity is all the flaws that we have, how animal-esque we can be, our strife to be perfect. Humanity is not just the way we carry ourselves or our demeanor. I hope that humans will humble themselves and will stop being surprised when they hear incidents like "Man's ear bitten off by his son-in-law during family feud." I'm guilty of this of course, like I said, "It never ceases to amaze me..." The irony is that this is part of humanity as well, this idea that we think we're perfect and righteous--but we're not. So really, if this is what humanity is, then we're all human, even the "crazy ones."
