Seeing
as that you are here looking at this blog, it is safe to assume you are part of
Mr. Economos’s AP Language Arts class and are (hopefully) working on this blog
project. In this project, there are two types of blogs you must do, a choice
blog, and a current event blog. In the choice blog, you can blog about anything
you want, and in the current event blog, you must blog about a current even in
the Georgia area. Which do you prefer?
The
choice blog with pretty much a bottomless pit of topics you can choose from may
seem the easiest to write at first, but you may come across many road blocks on
the way. I feel that the biggest problem with the choice blog is just that. The
fact that you have to choose a topic from the endless possibilities in itself
is a challenge. For the last two choice blogs, I found myself sitting in front
of my computer trying to pick a suitable and interesting topic to write about.
And for the last two choice blogs, I found that my inner muse has abandoned me
in my time of dire need (hence my current blog topic). Despite the sheer amount
of time it takes to come up with a topic, once the topic is chosen, the rest is
a piece of cake. The words for these choice blogs seem to just flow onto the
screen of my computer without conscious thought; almost like I’m talking rather
than writing.
The
current even blog, on the other hand, is practically the exact opposite of the
choice blog. Its greatest downside is that there is NOTHING to write about. The
rubric states that the current event blog must “focus on local events: Atlanta
and Georgia”. That’s just the problem! No one cares about Georgia. It’s
probably one of the most forgettable states right alongside those mid-western
states whose names I can never remember. In fact, in the last current event
blog, the most interesting thing that I could find was that the Georgia Archives
was not closed as previously planned. The MOST interesting thing that happened
was that something didn’t happen. If finding a topic for the choice blog is
like looking for a needle in a haystack, then finding a topic for the current
event blog is like looking for a needle in the cold depths of space. In other
words, nonexistent.
Despite
these draw backs, I rather like this project compared to others I have done. It
is a chance for me to write freely without worrying about content or grammar
(to an extent). I don’t have to follow a preset topic nor do I have a final
goal to work towards Just 300+ words of whatever the heck I want.
