Sex offender in Fulton school.

10/26/12
In the article, “Fulton school officials review procedures after volunteer revealed as sex offender,” it was found that a volunteer for Bear Creek Middle School and Creekside High School band programs, was convicted in 2004 on two counts for aggravated child molestation. The man’s name was Demetrius Thompson and his photograph was found on the online Georgia Sex Offender Registry. The district banned Thompson from all school property and notified his parole officer, and an arrest warrant was issued for violating the conditions of his parole. He later turned himself into the Fulton County Fugitive Squad. It was found that Thompson passed the background check because he changed his information so it wouldn’t match the sex registry information, but this slip is inexcusable. The school system seemed to have followed all procedures and make sure this does not happen again. The district also checked the sex offender registry for all surrounding municipalities for all guardians in Bear Creek. School administrators are currently getting equipment that will scan all the IDs to enter all school buildings.

This issue is very important because around the world, several young people are being sexually abused. Many of these occasions, sometimes lead to very extreme results such as the kids basically being scarred for life or some even committing suicide. Many sex offenders are usually not caught which leads to a widespread number of them who are able to get away with it, and in turn more and more kids are being continuously abused. Most victims are too afraid to tell anyone what has happened to them, but in order to decrease the number of sex offenders there needs to be a voice. With a voice, it is easier for the police to catch sex offenders and put them in jail and lessen the number of people who are victims of these serious offences such as rape, child sexual abuse, and sexual assault. This issue should be voiced and people should be informed of these types of things that occur in their community. This affects each and every one of us because no one knows if there are sex offenders around them or in their community such as the article mention. SO beware.
