Studio Ghibili

Not many people know about Studio Ghibili, especially in Ametica. Studio Ghibili is a famous Japanese movie studio, known for animated movies such as My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. Personally, I think their movies are really underrated. Not many Americans (grown ups) enjoy watching animation films, especially Japanese. Even myself, I usually don't watch Anime (Animated TV shows), but I really enjoy watching Studio Ghibili's movies. I think their movies are good.not because of the animations, but because of the content and the substance. They seem like a simple, childish movies that have no depth to it, but they have much deeper explanations and intentions. Studio Ghibili is pretty big in Japan (of course) and their movies are extremely well-known in South Korea also. Hardly any Americans know them, and I think their works deserve way more recognition. I hope people break their streotypical views about Japanese animated films and just watch it. Although they're animated, I think they're much better than all of the other mediocre movies out there. First one I watched is "Kiki's Delivery Service." Although many of their works are old and are in lower qualities compared to the films today, they're just as good as popular American or British films. One of my favorite is "Spirited Away." It is a story about a girl who moves to a new place with her parents. On their way to their new house, they find a manmade cave and decided to walk inside it out of curiosity. On the other end of the cave, Japanese traditional festival is set up, but no one is there. Her parents decide to eat the foods prepared without any permission, which eventually turns them into pigs. Monsters appear in the town at night, and she has to live there until she finds a way out. She eventually escapes with the help from a boy named Haku, but there is much more to the story. In Korea and Japan, or in Korea at least, people who are obsessed with Japanese animations are called Otaku. Otaku means "mania" in Japanese, but the term commonly refera to Anime freaks, or sometimes just anyone who's obsessed with something(mostly anime-related). Although the word does not have so much of a positive connotation, some people actually admit that they are one. What I want to say is, Studio Ghibili's movies are different from any other anime shows. Its not the motion pictures that distinguish them from any other movies, but its their substance and the content's depth.
