Georgia Crews Helping Maryland After Sandy: Ethan
Sterling
Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast Monday and Tuesday. It was said to be one of the worst storms in
recent decades, or called a second Katrina.
Down here in the South, we missed the storm. The only thing that we got was some strong
winds. There are people without power,
without food, or water. Even worse some
people died. Some lost homes, and their
lives have been torn apart. We all
continue our lives without giving it a second thought, not really taking in
what happened to other people. However,
some Georgia electrical crews are going up north and doing something. They are going to help those in need in the
aftermath of the storm.
Central Georgia EMC went to Denton, Maryland to help restore
power. Maryland requested the help
before the storm hit, in preparation for the massive cleanup. The electrical crew was more than happy to go
up and help, after Georgia has received help from other states when some of the
tornadoes have knocked out power.
Central Georgia EMC left Sunday at 6:00am and does not know when they
will return.
I think that it is important for us to recognize Central
Georgia EMC for helping Maryland. These
crew members went and helped out those in need.
They left their families and homes to go help people that they have
never met before. We, here in Johns
Creek, continue our day-to-day lives without really thinking about how lucky we
are. We overlook what could have
happened. We could have lost our homes,
family members, or lives. This storm
should make us thankful for the things we have and the place we live. Georgia does not really have any longer term
weather threats. Places like Alabama and
Mississippi have tornadoes, California is known for earthquakes, and places
along the Gulf Coast are known for hurricanes.
Hurricane Sandy should make everyone feel just a little more grateful.
