Daycare Center Closes

What are daycare centers? A place where kids stay during the daytime when their parents are at work. What is the number one priority of daycare centers? To take on the job of a parent and look after the kids until their legal guardians come back to pick them up. A daycare center in Cobb County obviously did not know this. Michelle Ava Bierkamp, who was the driver of a daycare bus, was responsible for transporting all the kids safely to the daycare center. She however, failed to check all the seats to see if any kids were remaining on the bus. Tamara Sue Robbins, who was the nurse responsible for monitoring all the disabled kids on the bus, also failed to see if any kids were left behind. Because of their lack of responsibility, a “medically fragile toddler” was left on the bus in the summer heat for four dreaded hours and suffered from dehydration. Few weeks later, the daycare center suddenly closed down – but that is no surprise.
What shocks me about this particular event is how careless these adults were. They have one job— to take care of the kids and ensure their safety. Both of them, however, did not feel there was a need to check the bus to see if all the kids were off. Furthermore, they did not even realize a kid was missing when they settled down in the building. This worries me greatly. Right now, a lot of people have working parents, and they depend on services like those provided by the daycare centers. If we can’t trust the lives of the future generation in the hands of people whose role in society is to look after kids, then who can we trust?
This incident can also be related to children who have parents who do not want to care for them. Children are constantly being mistreated everyday—from not feeding them enough food to smoking pot right in front of them. It is absolutely absurd that people think these can even be considered as moral actions. If you are not ready to step into the shoes of parenting, do not wear them. It’s as simple as that.
