Technological Addictions

Technological Addictions

During the last decade, technology has advanced to a point where imagining something is possible to make it a reality. It has also hindered society greatly. It is almost equivalent to a drug, where people become addicted and cannot live without it.

I shared a experience of this addiction. When I was a freshman in high school, I got a Play Station 3 for my birthday. I used to be a straight A student, but slowly I was paying less attention to my school work and I was focusing more on the video games. My addiction became so bad, I would lose sleep on the weekends just playing games all night long. I even lost 10 pounds, because I would skip meals just to play. Now that I look back, I realize that the decisions I made were stupid, but for some reason I dictated my life. These technological addictions have become equally as serious as drug related addictions. Especially in countries in Asia. Quitting is almost the same as quitting drugs. You exhibit physical distress. You shiver, You try to find other activities to solve your problem, but it is painful. My addiction was not severe enough for me to exhibit these distresses, so I was able to quit with little hardship. However, as technology advances it will become more and more apart of people's lives, people will become more attached. It will become more difficult to live without. Society will, inevitably, become one big computer.
