The Next Hollywood

Will Georgia become the next Hollywood of filming in the future? The third largest and extremely popular movie in North America is currently “The Hunger Games” which was released in March of this year, 2012.  “The Hunger Games 2” or “Catching Fire” is currently being filmed in Clayton County, Georgia. It began filming on September 10, 2012 and is scheduled to be released by next year on November 22nd. Producers and staff members of the film are making the exact filming locations confidential. They notify the extras the location where they should be at the last minute possible and have code names for the locations to maintain the secrecy of the filming.
Filming in Georgia has a lot of economic benefits. Producers purchase office supplies, lumber, and other materials that cannot be easily brought by plane. In addition to the supplies, they also have to pay the money required to live in Georgia, such as the hotel fees, for the staff members. Local extras are also necessary. Extras will not only be paid but also will gain the experience of watching and participating in the creation of a movie. The entertainment industry brought Georgia approximately 245 million dollars a year five years ago. However after the state issued some tax, the industry brings about 900 percent more of the 245 million dollars per year. The current movie being filmed is a big project due to the movie prequel’s good reception. The making of “Catching Fire” will drastically help the increase of the economy of Georgia.

During the past few years, the number of movies filmed in Georgia has increased. Films such as the two baseball movies, “42” and “Trouble with the Curve”, and AMC’s “The Walking Dead” are all examples of movies filmed in Georgia. Hopefully in the future, more filming will occur in Georgia.
