Anticipation

An imaginative speculation of the future: what does the passing of time have to offer? As we stand idle and the clock ticks on we wonder, “What will happen next?”

Time is the essence of life; the world would not function without it. Time controls where we are, what we do, and how we do it. I’m in high school now because of my time on this earth, I work hard because time will soon progress me towards my career, and I do this all in a hurry because I know that time will soon run out. We say we have free will, but in actuality, time controls us with a gripping hand and strangles us with its choking grasp.

Yes, time can present a limit on our lives, but it can’t control how we think of it. Time can’t control what we expect it will do. Time can’t decide what will happen next. Society dreams of the future and practically yearns for it. Humanity always wants to know what the next big invention is, or what kind of projects are being worked on. Take the iPhone for example: every season Apple comes out with a new product. These next generation iPhones are always bigger and badder, and now we have a phone that is practically our lifeline. I don’t know if I could even function without my beloved 3G. So people buy what has just come out: out with the old and in with the new. Apple sold 5 million pre sale iPhone 5s - more pre sales than any other iPhone they have launched. Many people had already decided to buy a new one before they even saw it! People speculated that it would be a valuable product; a product with new improvements that would knock iPhone 4s out of the water. People imagined that this new product would have so much to offer, but in actuality they had no idea what it would be like. They anticipated the excellence of the iPhone 5.

What does the world have in store for us? As individuals we will never know, but we can sure have fun guessing.

We can wait.

We can hope.

Anticipation is what dreaming is all about.
