First College Visit: Ethan Sterling
So this past weekend Fulton County gave us a three-day
weekend. Some people decided to stay
home and relax; some chose to take an opportunity to go out of town, like
me. I went on my first college visit—
down to Tallahassee, Florida, to visit Florida State University (FSU). However, this visit differed from an
ordinary one; I went with my aunt who attended FSU, not my parents, and we
decided to go to a football game Saturday.
My trip began Saturday morning, at 9:00am, when I left my
aunt’s house for FSU. I did not know
what to expect when I got there, so through the six hour car ride down, I
decided to keep my expectations low.
With a relatively, uneventful car ride we had arrived at FSU. The game began at 5:30, and we got to the
hotel at 2:30. Before going to the
stadium, my aunt and I had to run into the school bookstore and get a couple of
FSU t-shirts to wear to the game. Finally,
we were ready to walk down to the stadium.
With this being my first college visit, and one of the few college
football games I have gone to, the mass of people shocked me. I had no idea that there would be so many
people going to watch the game. So,
after a six-hour car ride, a mad dash to pick up some shirts, and a walk to the
stadium the game finally began. FSU
destroyed their opponents, Boston College.
The final score was 51 to 7. We
left the game a few minutes early, and before I knew it half of my college
visit was over.
The next morning was a slow one. We woke up around 10:00am, and did not start
walking around the campus until 11:00am.
My aunt showed me the areas that she remembered, when going to
school. I was beyond impressed with the
campus. I had heard that FSU was a
pretty school, but I had no idea what to expect. It was great, and as I walked around, I could
see myself going there in a couple of years.
Later that day, we drove around the parts of the school my
aunt did not know. I was surprised at
how big the school was. We then drove to
a couple of parks where my aunt used to hang out with her friends. The parks were very nice and I hoped that one
day I could go there too.
Before I realized it my first college visit was over, and I would
soon be back home. The only thing that
went through my head as we checked out of the hotel, was “I hope I can get in”.
